The project involved alterations and additions to the existing hospital in Tongaat. This included the design of the new entrance and admissions area, new casualty and administration departments, a 22-bed ward and some back-of-house services, such as a laundry, staff changing rooms, kitchen and plant rooms. In addition, a new five storeys consulting suite block, adjacent to the hospital, was constructed.
The new block comprises of two levels of parking as well as three levels of consulting suites. The refurbishment and building process was phased and decanting planned, in order to minimise disruption and ensure that the hospital could remain fully operational throughout the entire period.
